CHILDREN and adults alike enjoyed learning about what life is like for fire fighters in the region with a visit to the Country Fire Service over the weekend.
From fire danger education to a visit from a special mascot, it was a fun day for all involved.
Millicent CFS captain Phil Richards said the first open day in over 15 years was a success with a broad range of people attending.
“Despite some inclement weather with strong and gusty winds, there were reasonable numbers of locals that attended and actively engaged in discussion around the displays or participated in the activities,” he said.
“There was also strong interest in the community education material with very fruitful discussion and the likelihood of some community based events being held in the area before the next fire danger season.”
CFS mascot “Smokey” the koala was also among those who attended and was a hit with the children.
To further extend the community’s understanding of the services provided by the brigade, Mr Richards said it was likely other events will occur over the next six to eight months.
“The Millicent brigade would like to thank all those that attended and particularly the support from local media in helping to promote the event,” he said.
