“No way” to bullying

KINDNESS: Primary students Macey and Kyla promoted kindness as students and staff from four education centres in Penola came together to say “no way” to bullying on Friday.

STUDENTS and staff from four different education centres in Penola came together to say “no way” to bullying last week.

Dressed in orange they shared the message to the community in a different way as part of National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.

Representatives from Penola High School, Penola Primary School, Mary Mackillop Memorial School and McKay’s Children Centre gathered at the IGA supermarket in a united stance against bullying on the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence on Friday.

Held annually on the third Friday of March, the national initiative aims to bring school communities together to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence.

With a drone overhead, the cohort of students dressed in vibrant shades of orange – the official colour for the National Day of Action – and spelled out “no way” to drive home the anti-bullying message.

Penola IGA Fresh store manager Kerry McPherson spearheaded the local campaign and said she was proud to bring the schools together to support the cause.

“I think it’s a fantastic initiative and to have all the schools here together is a really special way to start the school year,” Ms McPherson said.

“All the students are dressed in orange as that’s the official colour for the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.

“To spell out ‘no way’ and stand united against bullying is really important and it sends a powerful anti-bullying message – it has certainly piqued the interest of passers-by too.

“A big thank you to all the students and staff who participated.”
