SAINT Anthony’s Primary School students are fighting back at bullying as part of a national campaign.
Tomorrow the school will participate in “Bullying, No Way!” Day, which brings school communities together to help find workable solutions to bullying and violence.
On the day students will participate in a number of classroom activities.
They will also come together as a school and create a display featuring personal messages about saying no to bullying.
“The day is a way to stand together as one and make a statement that everyone has a responsibility to create a safe and supportive school community,” St Anthony’s Primary School principal Amanda Parslow said.
Ms Parslow said the school had an anti-bullying policy in place, which was developed towards the end of last year.
“This day is another way the school community is putting out the message to foster a positive school environment and playing their part in supporting and developing such an environment,” she said.
“We are all together in this.”
Parents and students signed a policy at the beginning of the year, committing to making positive choices, looking at being the best person they can be and knowing everyone has the right to feel safe.
Ms Parslow said the policy has been well received by the community and the year has started positively.
Among those taking part are Year 6 students Brady Sharp and Lauren van Eeden.
The duo highlighted the importance of the day.
“It is important because it sends a strong message to students that no one should be bullied,” Brady said.
“Bullying does not just affect the person getting bullied, it also affects their family.”
Lauren said the campaign gives students the opportunity to show each other they care, adding there are serious repercussions as a result of bullying.
