A SAUSAGE sizzle was held at Fosters Foodland over the weekend, raising almost $200 for the Cancer Council.

Fifteen-year-old Millicent High School student and Cancer Council ambassador Sally Sapiatzer held the fundraiser on Saturday with help from Lou Gardin and Lions Club members Malcom McKeirhan and Robert Dunn.

Ms Sapiatzer has been an ambassador of the Cancer Council for three years and got involved after her grandfather lost his battle against the disease and sadly passed away.

“The Cancer Council really helped us when pa was sick,” Ms Sapiatzer said.

“I wanted to get involved as a token of my appreciation and in memory of my grandfather.

“It’s a really important cause and I hold it close to my heart.”

In addition to holding fundraisers Ms Sapiatzer has visited local primary schools and given presentations to students about the importance of keeping sun smart.

“It it vital that we raise awareness and teach the younger generation these things while they are young,” she said.

Ms Sapiatzer will hold another fundraiser later in the year for Daffodil Day.
