FINAL FACE-OFF: Mount Gambier candidates Gregg Bisset (Australian Conservatives), Isabel Scriven (Labor), Craig Marsh (Liberal) and Troy Bell (independent) are expected to be among the candidates attending the Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce Great State Q&A forum on March 14.

POLITICAL aspirants contesting the seat of Mount Gambier will face off in a second Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce candidate debate just days before the state election.

Following the success of the chamber’s Great State Debate last month, a final candidate debate will be held next Wednesday at The Barn.

Former SBS senior political reporter Daniela Ritorto will moderate the forum, which will be run in the style of ABC’s Q&A.

Chamber of Commerce president Lynette Martin said all eight candidates had been invited to the event to provide the electorate with a final glimpse of their vision for Mount Gambier before the March 17 poll.

Ms Martin urged community members to attend the question and answer session to gain a stronger understanding of candidates’ views on important issues.

“The chamber’s main role is advocating on behalf of its members at all levels of government,” she said.

“It is important for the chamber, the business community and in fact all members of the community to be aware of the policies all parties are proposing.”

As of print time, incumbent independent Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell, Liberal candidate Craig Marsh, Dignity Party’s Lance Jones, Australian Conservatives candidate Gregg Bisset and independent Richard Sage had confirmed their attendance.

Greens candidate Gavin Clarke is an apology for the night due to prior commitments.

“The chamber is most disappointed the two candidates Kate Amoroso from SA-Best and Labor’s Isabel Scriven Labor have not accepted to participate at this stage,” Ms Martin said.

“It is disappointing for the voting public of Mount Gambier to not have them present to represent their parties’ views and their policies, which will affect the future of Mount Gambier for the next four years.”

The free event will begin at 7pm, with attendees encouraged to register via StickyTickets as well as lodge any questions to be asked on the night.
