THE three Penola High School houses once again battled it out in the school’s annual 2018 interhouse Swimming Carnival.

Conditions were warm for the event, with many supporters turning out to cheer from the sidelines.

“This year has produced a fantastic year of swimming, with the high numbers of students participating accompanied by strong swimmers in every age group making for some fantastic finishes,” Penola High School physical education teacher Chloe Long said.

The team scores were close all day, with Torilla and Yalluminga fighting it out to be crowned carnival champions.

Georgia Winter has started high school off strongly, showing off her swimming ability by winning the under 14 girls trophy, while Breanna Lythgo received the runner-up under 14 girls trophy.

Aaron Zerk and Jake Klemm had a strong battle all day with Aaron coming away with the under 14 boys trophy and Jake was runner-up.

Ella Hutchesson continued her good form from last year and won the under 15 girls with Jess Eastwood close behind as runner-up.

Joel Virtanen and Tom Skeer stepped up their swimming this year, with Joel receiving the under 15 boys trophy and Tom receiving runner-up.

In the under 16 girls, Kate Skeer and Kasey Morton showed participation counts, with Kate Skeer coming away with the under 16 girls trophy and Kasey runner up.

Jack Walker had a fantastic day in the pool, winning multiple events, narrowly winning the under 16 boys trophy over Caleb Lythgo.

Brooke Hutchesson was crowned open girls champion with Emily Winter also swimming strongly to secure the runner up trophy.

Jesse Martin performed strongly to be the open boys winner with Ryan Zerk as runner up.

“The house captains did exceptionally well in organising their teams and making sure all the events were filled throughout the day,” Ms Long said.

“Their moral support and enthusiasm on the side lines proved to be effective in getting their competitors to the finish line.”

Ms Long said it was great to see all house members contribute to the success of their teams both in entering events and encouraging and supporting fellow members.

The results on the day were very close, however Torilla proved too strong, winning the day by three points.
