New road safety signs for Kalangadoo

ROAD safety signs will now be present in Kalangadoo to assist with enhancing the safety of children around roads leading up to this year’s first school term.

Kalangadoo Lions Club, the Kalangadoo Remembers Foundation and Regional Community Road Safety officer Rob Forgan, united to advocate for the Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation, which aims to promote children’s road safety.

Signs have been erected around the town, with an educational talk given to the town’s youth on Monday by Kalangadoo Remembers Foundation member Peter Burford and Penola Police Senior Constable Huw Pearce.

“It is very important to take your time and slow down around the town’s roads,” Mr Pearce said.

“Taking five seconds to be aware of your surroundings could save your life.”

After losing their son Tom, New South Wales couple Michelle and David McLaughlin began the national campaign in the hope of saving young lives.

Mr Pearce commented the road safety foundation was a fantastic organisation.

“However, we have to remember the organisation is a result of a devastating family tragedy,” Mr Pearce said.

The town’s new signs will inform the community to “Slow Down Kids Around” and “Hold My Hand” and will be visible at the Kalangadoo Deli and the Krieger T & S Rural General Store.
