RECOGNISED: Mount Gambier City Council Mayor Andrew Lee congratulates Mount Gambier Australia Day Citizen of the Year recipients Peter Martin and Lois Bayre.

COMMITTED community members Peter Martin and Lois Bayre were this morning announced as the recipients of the Australia Day Citizen of the Year award.

Gathering together at City Hall, the two were recognised for their achievements and dedication to helping others alongside close family and friends.

Ms Bayre in particular was thanked for her involvement in Mount Gambier’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising more than $100,000 for Cancer Council SA over the past 19 years.

Mr Martin was recognised for his giving nature and community spirit, providing assistance to those in need with errands and transport.

Also recognised was this year’s Young Citizen of the Year Laura Small and Community Event of the Year recipients Aileen Clarke and Margaret Brown for their work on the Fidler and Webb exhibition.

All recipients will receive their official awards at the Mount Gambier Australia Day Breakfast and Awards Ceremony on January 26 at the Railway Lands.
