‘Idiotic’ graffiti slammed

IDIOT VANDALS: Wattle Range Mayor Peter Gandolfi has slammed the brazen act of vandalism on Millicent’s entrance sign over the holiday period.

WATTLE Range Mayor Peter Gandolfi has branded vandals of the Welcome to Millicent sign “idiots” as costs to restoring the stone structure escalate.

Vandals targeted the sign last week, using black and purple spray paint to cover it with a graffiti tag and crude patterns.

Mr Gandolfi said he was “absolutely livid” about the “disgraceful” behaviour of the individuals that had committed the offence.

He added council would pursue those responsible for full costs in repairing the damage.

“I’d hope that police are successful in catching these criminals,” he said.

“Either through the criminal court process or through civil action, we need to send a strong message to these criminals that we will not tolerate this type of behaviour.

“Council has invested strongly in improving the amenities of the township and I hope these idiots are caught and publicly shamed.”

Mr Gandolfi said council was looking at a number of options to repair the damage, with staff painting over it as a temporary measure during the holiday period.

“Leaving it was a disgraceful image for those visiting the town,” he said.

“We would expect it will be repaired to its previous stone finish.”
