Saint Martins students achieve ATAR goals

HIGH SCORES: St Martins Lutheran College principal Dianne Eckermann congratulates students Vimbiso Chiodze, Jack Murrell and Lachie McGregor on their excellent ATAR scores received yesterday morning.

CELEBRATIONS were in order for St Martins Lutheran College students yesterday as the top four students received ATAR scores in the 90s.

Vimbiso Chiodze, Jack Murrell, Hamish McKenny and Lachie McGregor all breathed a sigh of relief seeing they had reached their goals with scores of 94.75, 92.30, 91.30 and 90.45 respectively.

Out-performing the state average with 64pc of students at the Mount Gambier-based school achieving an ATAR over 70, principal Dianne Eckermann said it was a proud moment as they placed in the top 30pc of the state.

“It is such a great effort to see 100pc of eligible students complete the SACE in 2017,” she said.

“The school community is excited to see the 2017 year students embark on their work and study pathways.”

Studying chemistry, mathematics methods, biology, English literary studies and research project this year, Ms Chiodze said she was pleased to have progressed through the stressful year successfully.

“I was pretty nervous before I read my score, but I am really happy now to know that my dream of getting into medicine could be achieved,” she said.

“I’m keeping my options open at the moment, but am looking at studying medicine.”

Also able to relax after receiving a high enough score to undertake his chosen degree of mechanical and aerospace engineering in Adelaide, Mr McGregor said he was happy with his result.

“With specialist maths, maths methods, physics and chemistry this year, there was a lot of work to do, but I think I did pretty well considering,” he said.

“I’m just glad I achieved over the score to get into the course I want.”
