THERE were smiles and relief for high-performing Mount Gambier High School students yesterday morning after the release of this year’s ATAR scores.
Tenille Gray, Jemma Heraper, Bowen Hosking, Blayke McMillan and Emma Bouchier in particular received special congratulations after receiving scores in the 90s.
Scoring 98.35, 94.70, 94.15, 92.85 and 92.30 respectively, principal Chris Edmonds was filled with pride as he spoke of the achievements of the top students and the rest of the Year 12 graduates.
“I am immensely proud of all of the students, the fact they have completed SACE and are way up there with the state expectations is fantastic,” he said.
“This is just one step and gives them their next choice, that is what I am most proud about, they can now start to plan what that next step is.”
Completing health, child studies, general mathematics, and English this year, Ms Gray received the second highest score in Mount Gambier, only a fraction behind the top score of 98.75.
“I was so relieved this morning when I read my score, all of those late nights were worth it,” she said.
“I did not expect to get such a high score so it was a big shock, but I am excited to take my gap year and then go on
to study primary teaching in Adelaide.”
Also looking forward to relaxing after a nervous wait, Ms Heraper said she is glad the stressful period is over.
“I was really nervous before reading my score, my heart was beating so fast, but I am pleased with what I have achieved,” she said.
“Although Year 12 was not as hard as I thought it would be, there were still some struggles.”
Ms Heraper will undertake a traineeship with Grant District Council in Port MacDonnell next year while she decides what her next step will be.
