School students help families in need

CHRISTMAS TRADITION: Tenison Woods College Year 3 students Elodie, Riley, Layla, Mahli and Flynn with gifts bought for families in need in the region.

TENISON Woods College students have done their part during the season of giving this year by donating gifts to families in need.

Following the school tradition, students from all levels were given the opportunity to raise money through a range of activities, including bric-a-brac sales and car washing in order to purchase gifts.

Class 3MK in particular proved very successful, raising a total of $339.80 through a pre-loved toy sale on the school grounds.

“Prices were very competitive, starting as low as 20c – we were swiftly overwhelmed by enthusiastic customers vying for the vast selection of quality used items we had on display,” teacher Monika Kolhoffer said.

“In fact, it was even more intense than a Myer’s Boxing Day sale and everyone obtained lots of bargains.”

Last week, the gifts purchased by class 3MK and the rest of the school were handed over to ac.care and St Vincent de Paul and will be distributed to families in need in the lead-up to Christmas.

“This campaign was created to bring about social justice to give students the opportunity to follow the discipleship of Jesus and spread Christmas cheer among those less fortunate,” Ms Kolhoffer said.

“We focused on the incredibly important Christian principle that everyone is made in the image of God and worthy of love, respect and inclusion.

“We do not want anyone missing out on the joys of Christmas, after all Christmas is a special time for thinking of others.”
