KANGAROO Inn Area School’s bid to fix a broken boundary fence is one of 100 school projects vying for funding under the State Government’s Fund My Neighbourhood program.
The school is seeking $30,000 to replace the existing wire fence at the northern side of the school oval.
Kangaroo Inn Area School principal Annie Matthews said the fence was in urgent need of replacing to protect the safety of students.
“We want to ensure our students are safe and the fence is currently falling down,” she said.
“There is a risk of students accessing the road, which is a potential disaster.
“There are log trucks that go past at 80kph, which is a hazard for our students.”
Ms Matthews said the school had raised in excess of $6000 to contribute to the project.
“There has been an overwhelming community response and the community has been very happy to support us in fundraising towards the fence,” she said.
“We recently held a trivia night and had more than 80 people attend, which was fantastic.
“Local businesses have been great and we received a lot of goods and services we used in an auction on the night.
“We raised $4000 at the trivia night and received a $2000 donation from the Greenways Hall Committee, which we were very appreciative of.”
Ms Matthews encouraged all residents to cast their vote for the school project ahead of tnext week’s closing date.
“We need funding to make sure the boundary is safe,” she said.
“Replacing the fence makes our community safer and has positive impacts for students, teachers, recreational users and road users.”
