Craft skills showcased

TRIBUTE: Willow Eckermann, Rosie Moorhouse, Asha Messenger and Amber Morton with model treehouses they creates as a tribute to classmate Max Croser, who made his own model while being treated for burns in hospital.

PENOLA Primary School Year 4 students crafted model tree houses, zen gardens and painted Picasso-esque artwork ahead of the Penola Show.

Year 4/5 teacher Julianne Williams said creating model tree houses was a tribute to class mate Max Croser, who is renowned among the Year 4 cohort for his tree house building skills.

“Students used pop sticks to make tree houses in a collaborative project with Max,” Ms Williams said.

“Max worked on his model tree house while he was in hospital and we had a Skype session so everyone could show him their designs and vice versa.

“Max is famous for making real tree houses – when any of his school mates stay at his house they play in his tree houses and they are amazing.”

The miniature zen gardens project was completed with a student teacher.

“The idea was to create a calm space with greenery and a water feature,” Ms Williams said.

“It’s a calming and relaxing form of sensory play.”

Students also entered surreal portraits painted in bold colours to be displayed among the arts and crafts projects at the showgrounds.
