MILLICENT’S newest police officer has a good grounding in South East affairs in addition to having worked overseas in uniform as well.
During more than two decades in uniform, Senior Constable Anthony Carroll has served in the British army and police forces in Adelaide and his native United Kingdom.
Aged in his late teens, Sr Cst Carrol opted to enlist in the army and its armoured division.
His service in tanks and the following seven years took him to frontline service in the Balkans as well as postings to the US and Canada.
He swapped one uniform for another when he became a “bobby” in England.
This also occupied him for seven years after which he was then ready for a new challenge.
South Australian Police was undertaking a recruiting drive in the UK and this attracted the interest of Sr Cst Carroll.
“It is a bit of a cliché, but we were attracted as a family to Australia as it offered a better life and sunshine,” he said.
He spent a year in Adelaide with an emphasis on traffic duties and then the Carroll family moved to Robe where they have been for the past six years.
“I know Millicent very well and I would call into the station every week,” he said.
The married father-of-two is devoted to his young family and happy in his role of a police officer on general patrols.
“I hope to play in the Millicent United Soccer Club as I did in the past season and I have an interest in rugby too.
“I hope to be able to promote soccer in Millicent schools.
“I enjoy being a part of small country communities.
“I am not sure how long we will stay in Millicent and it will depend on my family.”
The vacancy arose at Millicent Police following the return to Adelaide of Sr Cst Jeremy Bretag.
