STRONG community support was evident for Boneham Aged Care Services on Saturday when the facility staged its major annual fundraising event.

More than 200 residents, family members, staff and visitors happily parted with their money at the various stalls on offer at the Boneham Fete.

The function coincided with Seniors Month, which is being held across the nation.

The La Fromelles Cafe courtyard and the Diva Room had traditional fete stalls which sold hot food, bric-a-brac, local craft and produce, seedlings and baked treats.

Boneham Aged Care Services leisure and lifestyle coordinator Deb Cavanagh said all funds raised at the fete would be put towards increasing the quality of life of residents with new items such as outdoor furniture.

It was the ninth consecutive yearly fundraiser and staff and residents took part in the fete by contributing items for sale, manning stalls and selling raffle tickets.

Among the senior staff who “put their shoulder to the wheel” were board consultant Jenny Norman and director of care Kathy Goldsack.

For example, administrative staff member Sharon Patton sold hot dogs and doughnuts with the assistance of her husband Mark.

Boneham Aged Care Services resident Pat Richardson spent decades in the retail jewellery business and manned this stall in the Diva Room, which was renamed Boneham Boutique for the day.

Millicent resident Bill Chapman was one of a number of community residents who supported the event and said he enjoyed the social side of the fete in the company of his wife Heather.

“We go to the fete every year as we try to help them by raising money,” Mr Chapman said.

“They have some good items for sale and we bought some cakes and some jewellery.

“It is a fun day and we like to help them get funds for equipment.”

The 68-year-old said one of the future options for the couple might be to move to Boneham Aged Care Services.
