NEW STORE: A new McDonald’s Family Restaurant is on the cards for Mount Gambier.

ATTAMURRA Road could be the home of a new McDonald’s Family Restaurant if an application submitted to the Mount Gambier City Council Development Assessment Panel is approved.

Proponents hope the proposal will proceed promptly and generate 100 ongoing jobs.

The new application outlines intentions to construct a restaurant with associated carparking, signage and landscaping at 38 Attamurra Road in Worrolong.

The latest application comes just over a year after a development application was lodged for construction of a bulky goods retail outlet, petrol station and restaurant at the former Fletcher Jones site.

The proposed second Mount Gambier McDonald’s store is expected to create 100 ongoing jobs as well as an economic boom during its construction phase.

“McDonald’s is extremely excited the family friendly restaurant will provide approximately 100 plus jobs to the local community in the form of full-time, part-time and casual opportunities, along with jobs generated through the construction,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said.

“The restaurant signifies a $6m investment in the local area and will be built by South Australian contractors, continuing to show McDonald’s support for the local communities in which they operate.”

The development application will be lodged over the next month and, if approved, the store will be owned by local businessman Bryce Crick.

Mr Crick is the owner and operator of the existing Mount Gambier, Naracoorte and Portland restaurants.

Last year, Mr Crick flagged the need to build another store to relieve traffic congestion at the current site and service the city’s residential growth corridor.

The existing stores already make McDonald’s the largest regionally-owned and operated business outside of the Scott Group of Companies.

Attamurra Road borders the sprawling Conroe Heights residential area and is also home to the popular Dimjalla Skatepark.

McDonald’s plans to have the restaurant open and trading for Christmas in 2018.
