Shining vehicles on show

SHOWCASING: Participant Ian Kemp with his 1970 LC Torana at the Lady Nelson Visitor and Discovery Centre on Saturday.

A MASS of 90 classic and vintage vehicles were proudly on display over the long weekend at the annual South East Street Machines Show and Shine event for the community to enjoy.

Show and Shine organiser Dave Baudinette said the event was a success with a mixture of local and visiting entries and a large turn-out from the public keen to view the vehicles at the Lady Nelson Visitor and Discovery Centre on Saturday.

“Around 70pc were local entries and the rest of the participants travelled from all over the region, including Millicent, Naracoorte, Edenhope and Portland,” Mr Baudinette said.

The casual car event has been held for the past six years and is run each October long weekend.

“It is not a formal event and the day is about enjoying cars and enjoying people,” Mr Baudinette said.

Seven major prizes were awarded and these included the Top 5 Cool Riders, entrants’ choice and peoples’ choice.

The Top 5 Cool Riders awards went to Kevin Bell and his HK Holden Monaro, Scott McKinnon and his Holden LC GTR Torana, Bev Kettle with her 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne, Ashley Ward and a

1936 Ford coupe hot rod and Taylor Henley with his Holden VK Commodore.

Entrants’ choice was won by Maxine Pickrell with her Mk1 Ford Cortina and the people’s choice was received by Warrick Kettle with his 1957 Chevrolet Coupe.

ON SHOW: Troy Solly shows off his colourful vehicle at the weekend’s show and shine event.
