Spadotto claims AFL tipster title

DUAL WINNER: Al Spadotto won the round 23 weekly prize for AFL tipping as well as being the overall champion for 2017.

THE grand final is not far away but the free AFL tipping competition which ran each week in The South Eastern Times finished at the end of the minor round.

The title of best tipster for 2017 has gone to Millicent’s Al Spadotto and he has also collected a $1000 voucher from the Harvey Norman store in Mount Gambier.

His tally of 129 was just one ahead of Craig Eddy, Kevin Pech and Jordan Muhovics.

Not only was Al the annual winner, he also claimed $100 of vouchers to spend at local businesses by winning round 23.

He attributed his win to a healthy dose of luck as shown by Australian speed skater Stephen Bradbury who won the 2002 Olympic Gold Medal after all the other skaters fell over on the last lap.

“I reckon I am like the Stephen Bradbury of footy tipsters,” Al joked.

“I was a few points away from the lead coming into the last round.

“I have been going in this competition for many years.

“I support Carlton in the AFL but I don’t tip them every week.

“I have seen them play but never in the finals.

“That is on my bucket list”.

The South Eastern Times advertising representative Katherine Taylor said the free AFL competition had maintained its popularity and was again well supported by advertisers and readers.

“Tipping the AFL winners each week in The South Eastern Times competition is a winter tradition for many,” Katherine said.

“There is always excitement in our office when we get an emailed notification from the computer stating who has won the weekly prize.”

The winner of The Border Watch’s tipping competition was also recently announced.
