Spring market day raises show funds

SPRING MARKET: Harvey and Lilly Vanderheul had fun at the Spring Market with Millicent Show Society senior vice president Susie Hutchesson, assistant secretary/treasurer Lynne Stupple and committee member Sue Vanderheul.

LIGHT rain did little to deter bargain hunters from the Millicent Agricultural, Horticultural and Pastoral Show Society’s Spring Market this month.

More than 20 stallholders lined the Millicent Showgrounds Shearing Shed for the society’s major fundraising event.

Stalls of handmade candles, retro collectables and clothing complemented hot chips and homemade treats during the morning market.

Market coordinator Trudy Mengersen said despite the inclement weather she was happy with the attendance.

“I think the weather has put people off, but we still had people coming in and some of the stallholders sold a few items,” she said.

“We were down on stallholders from the last market day and I think the weather played a part in that too.

“The stallholders we did have were fantastic and we had people come from Mount Gambier, Robe and Lameroo.”

Ms Mengersen said she was confident the society’s next December market would attract more attendees.

“We’re hoping to have more fruit and vegetable stalls and a few more outdoor sites with the weather being warmer,” she said.
