SHOWBAGS, farm animals and sideshows will brighten the city next month as the Mount Gambier Agricultural and Horticultural Society prepares for another fun-filled show.

Held at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds, the annual event is expected to attract a large crowd from across the region with free activities for the whole family.

Society secretary Cathy Knight said families will not have to empty their pockets to have a fun day with plenty of affordable attractions.

“We are really pushing the free activities to encourage people to come along and spend more time enjoying what is there,” she said.

“It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to have a great time.”

Mechanical bull rides, Eljay freestyle entertainment, arts and craft activities and performances by The Howling Huskies and Walter Whip and The Flames are among the free options.

Performing at the Mount Gambier Show for the first time this year, Walter Whip will be one of the highlights of the event, cracking whips and entering a burning ring of fire.

Full of baby animals, the Ag Learning Centre is also expected to be a popular attraction with children and “big kids” able to get up close to the friendly, furry animals.

“The kids really love seeing all the cute animals and in the week before the show primary school students get to have a sneak peak at what is there,” Ms Knight said.

As usual, there will also be an array of livestock to be judged over the two-day event.

However, as the show nears the society is urging people to get their entries in before time runs out.

“It is important to get in quick so they don’t miss out,” Ms Knight said.

Visit www.mgshow.com to view schedules and entry forms and return to the A&H office at the showgrounds before the closing date.

The Mount Gambier Show will take place on October 20 and 21 at the showgrounds on Pick Avenue.
