Golf fundraiser for RFDS

GETTING IN THE SWING: Royal Flying Doctor Service Mount Gambier Support Team annual golf day winning 2017 team Robbie Young, Garry Boston, Paul Reade and Grant Harvey.

PREPARATIONS are in full swing for this Sunday’s Royal Flying Doctor Service Mount Gambier Support Team annual golf day, which is a key fundraising event.

Staged at Attamurra Golf Course, the event will feature an all-day barbecue, drinks trolleys and afternoon tea.

The competition will be in the form of an Ambrose four-ball competition and only one person in a team of four needs to be a golfer.

Support group president Bill Russon said regional businesses were rallying behind the golf day by providing generous sponsorship.

“All that is needed now are teams on the course to make the day a success and raise much-needed funds to keep the flying doctor flying,” Mr Russon said.

“All money raised goes directly towards the costs of purchasing and outfitting the RFDS planes.”

He said the golf day was one of the major annual fundraisers for the hardworking support group in Mount Gambier, which in 2016 raised more than $50,000.

“The RFDS supplies a vital service in the urgent transportation of patients to metropolitan hospitals for a higher level of care and many accident victims owe their lives to the RFDS service,” Mr Russon said.

“The RFDS lands on average twice a day in the state’s South East, so the support group hopes the community continues to support the event as it has done so generously in the past.”

Teams can be entered in the men’s, women’s or mixed categories and golfers are encouraged to get a team organised and enter to have some fun, with some great prizes to be won.

To enter a team email mtgambier@oncoursegolf.com.au or contact Mount Gambier Golf Pro Shop on 8725 1619.
