TOURISTS and locals eager to taste the region’s iconic wines are continuing to enjoy the diverse Cellar Dweller events in Coonawarra held throughout July.

Upstairs at Hollick manager Hannah Lewis said the yearly event brought many people to the town as it was unique and offered an array of classic wines.

“Cellar Dwellers events are a great initiative for the town during the winter months,” Ms Lewis said.

She said the winery typically noticed many visitors from Robe around this time of year who loved touring the wineries in South Australia.

Raidis Estate sales and events manager Emma Raidis said the first week of school holidays had been busy with many wine tasters travelling from across the border.

The winery held their successful Cellar Dweller Back Vintage Bar Night event at Raidis Estate last Friday night.

“Half of people at the event were from interstate, and specifically travelled to attend Cellar Dweller events in Coonawarra,” Ms Raidis said.

She said 80 people indulged in delicious back vintages on the night and were treated to entertainment by talented musician Ash Smith.

“Back vintages are a major attraction for visitors and some on offer included the 2008 Kid Riesling and the 2008 Billy Cabernet Sauvignon,” Ms Raidis said.

Their weekly Wrapped in Riesling event was held again on Saturday and Ms Raidis said it attracted many visitors from Adelaide.

Majella Wines is celebrating 13 years at Cellar Dweller with an event each weekend in July, also attracting many visitors.

“Our weekends have been increasingly busy due to our Cellar Dweller events,” Majella administration manager Nerys Merrett said.

Wine lovers were able to test their 13-year-old award winning wines which included the 2004 cabernet sauvignon and merlot.
