NANGWARRY based logging company LV Dohnt and Company continues to make its mark on the forestry industry after receiving the 2017 Telstra South Australian Medium Business Award last week.

Celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, the family owned company has developed a good reputation for providing the Southern Hemisphere with sustainable and certified wood fibre.

Put through a vigorous judging process, LV Dohnt & Co was scrutinised regarding all aspects of business including technology, financials and staff satisfaction.

Managing director Phillip Dohnt said although they knew they were in the running for the award it was definitely a surprise to hear they had won.

“It is pretty pleasing and great to be recognised – especially seeing as there was around 5000 entrants,” he said.

Employing over 140 staff, Mr Dohnt said it is important for them to ensure each employee feels like a part of the family.

“After 85 years in business we have developed a good work culture and grown substantially with contracts throughout the South East, Western Victoria and the Great Southern Region of Western Australia,” he said.

“We also employ a occupational health and safety trainer and invest a lot back into the business.

“As a family run business we get instant results and decisions with no corporate structure.”

Telstra Small Business executive director Brendan Donohoe said the winners of the 2017 Telstra South Australian Business Awards all demonstrated a level of innovation underpinned by a global ambition.

“For the winners of the 2017 Telstra South Australian Business Awards, technology is a fundamental part of their respective strategies,” he said.

“These strategies are focused on tackling the current issues affecting Australia’s communities and preparing for future trends which are destined to have an international impact.”

LV Dohnt & Co will now go on to join other state and territory category winners at the national 2017 Telstra Australian Business Awards in Sydney on August 25.
