Riding to raise money

FUN ACTIVITY: Yahl Primary School students Brayden Habets, Reuben Otto, Airlie Sawyer, Logan Cook, Holly Phillips and Ben Gregory ride around the school together for the Wheels-A-Thon event last week.

YAHL Primary School students celebrated the opening of their new bike shed last week by taking part in a Wheels-A-Thon event.

Joining together with family members, friends and special guest Matthew Opperman, students proudly opened the new space which was funded by the Way2Go Wheels Hub Funding.

Also using the day as a chance to raise money for the pedal prix program, students were sponsored by their loved ones and received money for each lap of a set course they completed on their bike.

Principal Chris Morrison was thrilled to see students of all ages taking part and involving themselves with the event.

“Almost all of the students are here taking part in the event in some way or another,” she said on the day.

“The younger students came up with the course they would ride and the older students have helped them out with recording how many laps they have done.

“It is a great way for us to celebrate fitness and encourage kids to ride to school.”

The school currently has one pedal prix bike shared with Moorak Primary School, but students hope to build a further two bikes with the funds raised on the day.

Once completing the bike riding, students enjoyed a morning tea.
