EXCITED: Mary MacKillop students Hailee, Holly, Alyssa and Lewis enjoying the school’s new undercover multi-purpose area

A Highly anticipated and exciting new development at Mary MacKillop Memorial School is now constructed and in use for staff and students to enjoy.

The Federal Government provided a block grant to the primary school to design and build a much-needed multi-sport covered outdoor area.

The outdoor facility can be used for basketball, netball and four square, along with diverse physical education lessons, sheltered play area and school assemblies.

Mary MacKillop Memorial School principal Maureen Hanrahan said students were pleased the structure was complete.

“The first day the children used it they were extremely excited, it was filled with playful students,” she said.

Ms Hanrahan said the new structure had made a world of difference to the facilities at the school due to an increase in numbers in recent years.

“We have 87 students attending the school this year and it really is a multi-purpose construction as art, drama and physical education lessons are able to be conducted in the new area,” she said.

“It will be beneficial for students to be immersed in nature and to be outdoors while learning.”

The new construction will officially be opened by Member for Barker Tony Pasin on June 29 at 11am with the Archbishop also present for the event.
