Passing the baton

Owning their own business is a step up for Brendan Fleming and Thomas Garner, who are the proud owners of Mount Gambier Mechanical and Auto Electrical, taking over Phil Maywald Auto Repairs.

After 11 years working together at a local dealership, they have taken a leap and branched out on their own.

They have 30 years experience between them.

As well as being fully qualified mechanics, both men also have auto-electrical qualifications and AC licensed and trained, and with their skills and expertise picked up from their previous roles, they are keen to grow the business and offer more services to their customers, giving customers a “one-stop shop”.

“It’ll be taken one day at a time, but with the fact that we are qualified auto electricians, we’re wanting to build on that with the existing customer base,” Mr Fleming said.

“So we will offer what has been offered for the last 35 years, build on that, and start to offer what we can from what we’ve learned from where we’ve come from as auto electricians and coming out of dealerships.

“If you need something done, we should be just about just about do it here – mechanical repairs big or small, auto electrical fit outs and doing AC repairs on all light automotives.

Customers will experience the same great service, with Phil staying on until he chooses to retire, to allow for a smooth transition in this great business.

Mr Fleming and Mr Garner are keen to ensure all their customers enjoy the same great service they are used to from Phil Maywald Auto Repairs.

Coming from a larger dealership environment, the men are looking forward to dealing with, talking to and getting to know their customers and their cars, and being able to talk to their customers one on one.
