Lifestyle key to Resthaven shift

NEW Resthaven Mount Gambier lifestyle coordinator Pamela Bastow labelled her move from New South Wales to the Blue Lake city as a “great adventure”.

Ms Bastow, who moved to Mount Gambier in November last year, said her friends in New South Wales were jealous when told about the treasures Mount Gambier has offered.

“I have been told that Mount Gambier is South Australia’s best kept secret, and I think they might be right,” Ms Bastow said..

Together with her partner, Ms Bastow has soaked in the region’s offerings, including Umpherston sinkhole, Engelbrecht Cave, Port MacDonnell, the cross-city Rail Trail, and the Coonawarra wine district.

“I had never lived in South Australia before, and I am really enjoying the friendly, laidback and relaxed feeling that Mount Gambier offers,” Ms Bastow said.

“The weather, however, is another matter and I have already prepared my partner for my forthcoming winter wardrobe spending spree.”

With 20 years aged care experience, Ms Bastow will lead the Resthaven lifestyle team to provide an enriching and stimulating program for residents at the home on Mount Gambier’s Elizabeth Street.

“I have always had a genuine love for aged care, and I find working in lifestyle to be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling,” Ms Bastow said.

“I enjoy the outcomes of the combined efforts of the lifestyle teams, to see smiling faces, and to witness the enrichment of residents’ day to day lives. Who could ask for more?”

Ms Bastow said working in aged care was a privilege, adding she looked forward to working together with both staff and residents who had welcomed her to Resthaven Mount Gambier.

Resthaven Mount Gambier is home to around 100 residents, supported by a vibrant staff and volunteer team. Volunteer enquiries are welcome by phoning 8373 9036 or visiting www.resthaven.asn.au/volunteer.

Every day, Resthaven shares the lives and wisdom of older people and their carers, being one of only a select few aged care providers in Australia offering the full range of aged care service options.

A not for profit, South Australian aged care community service associated with the Uniting Church, Resthaven’s residential and in-home care and support options are offered throughout metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Riverland, Barossa, Fleurieu Peninsula and the Limestone Coast.
