LIFE STORY: Ada Gurney with her biography, written by Moira Neagle. Picture: AMY MAYNARD

MILLICENT stalwart Ada Gurney has spent her 94 years living life to the fullest, from leaving school at 12 to taking a voyage to Antarctica.

After taking the advice of family and friends she has released a biography, The Girl from the Wyrie: Memories of Ada Gurney.

The book was written by Moira Neagle.

The official launch of Ms Gurney’s book will be held on October 23 at 2.30pm at the Millicent Public Library, but in the meantime she has given a brief insight to her life story.

“I was one of 10 siblings who grew up at Lake Bonney,” she said.

“We used to cross Pompoon Swamp to go to school, but I left school at 12 to do housework for people.”

In her adult years Ms Gurney was a shearer’s cook and travelled across New South Wales.

She has also travelled to most of the world’s continents and when not globetrotting, can be found making preserves.

“I’m well known for my preserves and I have raised thousands of dollars for the Royal Flying Doctors Service through selling them,” she said.

Mrs Gurney was very happy with her book and said it looked lovely.
