Big rigs on show in South East

A TRUCKING GOOD EFFORT: Thousands of people flocked to the Mount Gambier Showgrounds to look at over 100 prime movers and displays during last year’s Family Truck Show. This year’s event is expected to be bigger and better.

BIG rigs and monster truck rides are among the drawcards for this year’s Mount Gambier Family Truck Show, with entries now open for the event.

Organisers have already secured a range of new features and displays, with the November 23 event to transform the Mount Gambier Showgrounds into a hive of activity.

Over 100 prime movers and around 3000 people attended last year’s event, with those figures predicted to be topped next month.

Event chairman Peter Burchell said the event’s strength was providing an opportunity for prominent industry leaders to give back to the community.

“It is a not-for-profit event which only requires a gold coin donation by visitors,” he said.

“What we raise is injected completely back into the community with entry funds being donated to ac.care.

“All event volunteers are not in it for themselves and are in it to help out in any way they can.”

This year’s show includes interactive activities for children, families and ‘big kids’, including farm animal activities, free face painting, giant games, a jumping castle, laser tag, train rides, a V8 Supercar simulator, truck simulator and popular monster truck rides.

It will also showcase a range of static displays including vintage trucks, the latest prime movers, go-karts and off-road buggies, caravans and campers, forestry and emergency service vehicles, truck and car models, jetskis, ATV’s and camping and four-wheel driving equipment.

Mr Burchell said the event was a unique way to recognise and acknowledge the prominent trucking industry in the Limestone Coast.

“We take pride in the trucking industry here,” he said.

“It plays a prominent role in our local economy through our forestry and timber industry, exporting, transport and much more.

Mr Burchell said the event was another great addition to the city’s calendar.

“It is also a one-day event so it starts and finishes on the one day and it does not take up too much of anybody’s time,” he said.

“Everyone of all ages is able to have a great time on the one day.

“It also brings families and children together to explore big equipment up close.”

An assortment of market stalls, trade stalls and a dedicated food, drink and seating area will also be available.

The event launches with a truck convoy meeting in Penola at 8am to arrive at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds by 9.30am.

Truck owners who are not displaying vehicles at the show are encouraged to participate in the convoy from Penola to Mount Gambier.
