CROCHET CLUB: Mount Gambier Library MakerSpace Crochet Club member Rhonda Robinson prepares for the club’s second annual exhibition this weekend.

THE Mount Gambier Library MakerSpace Crochet Club will host its second annual exhibition with a variety of work on display and for sale, including clothing, tablecloths, bags, toys and a unique array of other precious hand-made items.

The exhibition will be held this Saturday from 10am to 2pm and Sunday from 11am to 2pm.

With around 60 members, the crochet club is a lively bunch meeting twice a week.

Many joined as beginners, while others revisited their crafting hobby after many years.

The club is coordinated by local volunteer Val Milner, who has dedicated hundreds of hours of her time to share her knowledge and skills and in addition has started an “absolute beginner’s workshop” running over four weeks.
Anyone interested in joining one of the groups can contact the Mount Gambier Library to register their interest.

Rhonda Robinson, a regular attendee at the crochet club and self-taught crochet enthusiast, joined the club to enhance her skills.

“I have been crocheting for about five years now, but through the club I have been able to enhance my skills,” Ms Robinson said.

“So much so that I took out three first prize categories this year at the Mount Gambier Show for my crocheting.”

The crochet club meets every Monday and Friday from 2pm until 4pm at the library and new members are welcome to join any time.

As well as sharing new ideas and skills, the group members have formed friendships and actively get together for other social events.

The exhibition is open to the public and is a chance to meet some of the group members and find out why the craft has made such a popular comeback.
