HIGH academic achiever and heavily involved community member Aliza Pfitzner has been recognised for her dedication to Penola with the prestigious Wattle Range Council Young Citizen of the Year Award.

Last Year, Ms Pfitzner had a significant leadership role as SRC co-president at Penola High School which she shared with fellow Year 12 student and young citizen of the year recipient, Ella Kain.

“I have a passion for leadership roles, and an even greater passion for helping others to excel in their own leadership roles,” Ms Pfitzner said.

A highlight for Ms Pfitzner during her the SRC presidential role was the involvement the pair had with the Love Your Sister Love charity’s Big Heart Project.

“Our role involved us publicising the campaign and assisting to raise significant funds,” Ms Pfitzner said.

A Penola High School record was achieved with an outstanding $312 raised.

In addition to her influential role in organising an array of events through the school year, Ms Pfitzner also managed to receive the school’s top ATAR score.

With a score of 97.65 and achieving an A for four of her five subjects, the student also gained a merit for the research project.

The impressive academic achievement will allow Ms Pfitzner to study her desired course of Arts at the University of Melbourne this year.

“During my degree I am hoping to major in politics and international law,” Ms Pfitzner said.

When reflecting on her award, Ms Pfitzner said she was not expecting the recognition.

“It is an honour to receive the prestigious award, and I thoroughly enjoy being involved in the Penola community,” Ms Pfitzner said.

She said she was pleased to share the award with fellow friend and former Year 12 student Ella Kain due to their strong bond and growing up together.

“It has been fantastic to share not only the role of SRC president with Ella, but to receive the award together will cap off a great year,” Ms Pfitzner said.
