LOCAL fashion designer Marcia Hobbs has been selected to showcase her pieces in Australia’s first ever Eco Fashion Week in Perth.
The owner and designer of Barbwire Noose – a fashion label focused on supporting charities including Lifeline and Animals Unleashed – will this week travel to the Western Australian city where she along with many other designers will raise awareness of environmentally conscious fashion.
Created by Australian eco-fashion designer Zuhal Kuvan-Mills of Green Embassy, the event will include informative discussions, hands-on workshops and runway shows featuring the best in organic, hand made, ethical fashion.
Following the criteria of being eco and organic, Ms Hobbs said her six garments are very raw with minimal stitch and cuts.
“Because I’m not bound in a certificate of fashion design, I have been a bit more broad in how I have approached it,” she said.
“I have brought a bit of streetwear onto the runway, however I also have a few formal pieces that are quite elaborate and different.”
With a mixture of nerves and excitement, Ms Hobbs said she was feeling confident and looking forward to the experience.
“My pieces are gorgeous and I’m excited to show my creativity whilst also being a raw designer and business person,” she said.
“I am one of those people who create things from what they see, with one of my garments I found the fabric I liked first and created my piece from that.”
Jetting off to Perth today, Ms Hobbs said everything is organised and ready to go.
“I think every day leading up to the event is going to be stressful, it will be a relief when the runway is over and I get to relax with other designers,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to having a pop-up shop at the event and taking part in the workshops.”
Ms Hobbs’ designs will be modelled on Saturday alongside those from across Australia and overseas.
