Yarding: 767 Change: -496

MOUNT GAMBIER CATTLE

Wednesday February 16

Agents yarded a smaller yarding of 767 head of cattle 496 less on last week.

Quality was more mixed although some well presented pens offered in most of the categories.

The regular buying gallery attended combined with some feeder and restocker interest during the market.

Competition was steady as prices sold from firm to a slightly dearer trend with a few fluctuations in places.

Good quality well breed vealers sold from 506c to 580c/kg.

Yearling steers to the trade made from 440c to 524c as the restockers paid from mostly 485c to 545c/kg.

Yearling heifers to the trade sold from 460c to 502c and heifers suiting feeders made from 400c to 524c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks sold from 380c to 480c with the restockers and feeder active as they paid from 400c up to 510c/kg.

Grown heifers to the processors made from 363c to 410c and heifers suiting feeders sold to 460c/kg.

Dairy bred manufacturing steers of D2 score made from 280c to 346c with a few crossbred steers making 407c to 438c/kg.

Heavy cows sold firm and made from 298c to 352c/kg.

Restockers and feeders were active and paid from 284c to 376c/kg.

Light cows offered made from 200c to 270c/kg.

Heavy beef bulls also sold firm and made from 295c to 325c/kg .

NARACOORTE CATTLE

Tuesday February 15

Numbers rose this week as agents yarded 998 head of liveweight and open auction cattle.

These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers with feeder and restocker orders also present and active over the offering.

Quality was mixed this week as the market mainly sold to improved rates.

Vealer numbers were small as steers reached 600c to feed on, with heifers peaking at 560c/kg to the trade.

Yearling steers to the trade ranged from 440c to 466c/kg, the strong feeder and restocker orders took most of these cattle.

The feeders operated from 486c to 608c, and the restockers from 636c to 640c/kg.

Yearling heifers to the trade made from 410c to 554c, with feeder activity from 424c to 540c, and restockers active from 510c to 592c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks made from 435c to 530c, with feeder support from 438c to 555c/kg.

Grown heifers to the trade mainly sold from 353c to 527c, as feeders operated from 360c to 486c/kg.

Manufacturing steers ranged from 288c to 338c/kg.

Heavy weight cows remained firm in price as they ranged from mainly 325c to 355c with a top of 386c for younger types.

The lightweight pens made from 248c to 305c/kg.

Feeders were very strong as they sought supply from 290c to 372c/kg.

Heavy bulls ranged from 292c to 338c, with light weights to feed peaking at 500c/kg

NARACOORTE SHEEP AND LAMB

Tuesday February 15

Numbers climbed again as agents yarded 6,854 lambs and 1,614 sheep to total 8,468 head overall with a total lift of over 2,500 head on the

previous sale.

These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers along with a number of restocker orders.

Quality was mixed ranging from light store types up to extra heavy lambs with everything in between spread over the pens.

Some extra competition amongst the buying group this week led both the sheep and lamb markets to lift in price.

Light lambs to the trade made from $112 to $164 with the lightweight trade 2 and 3 score types making from $156 to $178/head.

Restockers operated from $90 to $158 for lighter weights and from $168 to $177/head for those with better conditioning.

Trade weight 3 score lambs ranged from $175 to $189 with most sales here from 820 to 840c/kg cwt and a lift of up to $6/head.

Heavy lambs made from $190 to $223 with a very good run of extra heavy export weighted lambs coming forward with these ranging from $221 to a market high of $279/head with most of these lambs ranging from 750c to 800c/kg cwt.

Hoggets ranged from $116 to $180 with a solitary wether also reaching $180/head.

Light sheep made from $98 to $132 with the medium weights making from $140 to $176 as heavy sheep returned from $195 to the high of $218 with a lift in price for sheep of $10 to $20/head.

Rams made from $50 to $148/head.
