TWO Coonawarra wineries have received top awards recently with Majella Wines and St Mary’s Wines celebrating a job well done.

Majella Wines was awarded the trophy for the Best Shiraz and Cabernet Blend at the Melbourne Royal Wine Awards, while Mulligan’s Spiced Cane Spirit was awarded a gold medal at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards.

“We are delighted to win this prestigious award with The Musician,” Majella Wines director Brian Lynn said.

“It’s our biggest selling wine and has done exceptionally well on the wine show circuit since its release back in 2005.”

This year, more than 3,000 entries were received from winemakers across the country to the Melbourne Awards alongside a panel of more than 35 industry experts.

Ian Mulligan, of St Mary’s Vineyard, said staff were proud to let people know about the latest award for the spiced cane spirit.

“With winning the gold we were in the running for a trophy but to no avail,” Mr Mulligan said.

“We can’t get too greedy as we won a trophy only a few weeks back for the Mulligan’s Clear Cane Spirit.”
