A MAJOR Mount Gambier construction firm, shopping centre and city restaurant have teamed up to raise funds for Australia’s struggling farmers.

Mount Gambier Marketplace and Versace Home Builders will throw their support behind 25 Acres Pizza and Pasta Bar’s fundraising efforts, by matching dollar-for-dollar funds raised to aid drought-hit farmers.

The partnership follows the Marketplace eatery joining the Parma for a Farmer cause.

25 Acres will donate $2 from every parmigiana sold during August to Buy A Bale – a campaign that to date has delivered over 160,000 bales of hay to farmers in need across four states.

Owner Vince Vinci said he wanted to do what he could to help.

“The Parma for a Farmer campaign is a great way to help out farmers who are doing it tough in drought conditions,” he said.

Buy a Bale has committed to using all funds raised in South Australia to help farmers in need.

“The initiative is a great way to raise awareness about the plight of our drought stricken farmers among people not directly affected,” Mount Gambier Marketplace centre manager Karen Cunningham said.

“It’s fantastic to see 25 Acres getting on board and we are pleased to offer our support for such a great cause.”

While more than 50 parmas have been sold to date, Mr Vinci said he hoped to sell 250 of the meals this month to collaboratively raise $1500.

“We are extremely grateful to Versace Home Builders, Mount Gambier Marketplace and Coca Cola for helping us support the Buy A Bale campaign,” he said.

“Get along to the Mount Gambier Marketplace and show your support for our struggling Aussie farmers, one parma at a time.”
