MAYURA Station’s specialist Wagyu beef restaurant, The Tasting Room, based in Millicent has won the best steak restaurant category at the 2018 SA Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence.

Managing director and Restaurant and Catering Australia (RCA) member Scott de Bruin said the award acknowledged the professional farming practices at Mayura Station resulting in its quality Wagyu product.

Mr de Bruin said the award also recognised the outstanding Tasting Room team who create and deliver a dining experience highlighting the unique product.

His remarks were endorsed by Mayura head chef Mark Wright.

“This award is a great recognition of the hard work and dedication of the entire Tasting Room team,” Mr Wright said.

“Being a regional dining destination poses unique challenges and one of those is to gain exposure in the market place, so this award will help inform more diners of what we are doing at Mayura.”

More than 200 people representing restaurants, cafes and catering businesses gathered to celebrate the achievements of their peers who were judged in over 60 categories.

The winners were announced at the awards for excellence ceremony held at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The awards is the only program in Australia where the judging criteria is determined by consumers who rank what is important to them in the dining experience.

They are judged by an independent team of trained judges who anonymously visit the venues to determine the restaurant/cafe winners.

The scores are based on the entire dining experience, from food to the customer service experienced when the judges anonymously dine.
