THE generosity of the South East community has again shone through with farmers rallying together to support those affected by the Victorian bush fires.

With fire destroying homes and farms earlier this months, trucks stacked with hay were delivered to Garvoc, Terang and Cobden, with four loads leaving Mount Gambier early Saturday morning.

“It is amazing to see the community effort come together like this,” organiser Aaron Harding said.

“Initially I thought three loads was doing well, but to have this much support was outstanding.”

Mr Harding said he appreciated the effort, with the fires hitting close to home for him with his aunt living in the area.

“I would just like to thank all the donators including all the farmers and others who contributed fuel, water and clothes donations,” Mr Harding said.

The fires destroyed 22 homes, along with sheds and farm machinery, and killed thousands of cows and sheep.

Around 40,000 hectares of land was affected across western Victoria as a result of the fires, which started on March 17.
