Southern region livestock leaders discuss future

PRODUCER FOCUS: Livestock SA Southern Region chairman Peter Stock is urging producers to attend the group’s meeting next month.

THE next Livestock SA Southern Region meeting will be held at the Keith Golf Club next month.

Southern region chairman Peter Stock said the meeting would provide a valuable opportunity for local producers to come together.

“As always, we are keen to not only discuss policies and industry matters, but to do so in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere,” Mr Stock said.

Headlining the meeting will be a presentation from Thomas Foods International’s (TFI) Ben Davies on how the company is mapping out its future, particularly after fire ravaged its Murray Bridge abattoir in January.

“SA livestock producers have great interest in how TFI is evolving as a company and we are looking forward to hearing about what lies ahead for the business,” Mr Stock said.

“This is not just in terms of TFI’s processing capacity, but its significant investment elsewhere in the red meat supply chain, including here in the South East.”

Mr Stock said the long-term success of livestock producers and the industry came back to having the resilience to ride-out tough times.

“It’s a fact that rings true at the moment for producers affected by the recent Sherwood fire and TFI,” Mr Stock said.

He said the agenda for the April 11 meeting would also include updates on the South Australian sheep and cattle industry blueprints, Livestock SA’s ongoing work regarding deer management and a discussion arising from the recent Sherwood fire.

Members and guests will be welcomed from 6pm, with a complimentary barbecue tea to be served from 6.30pm.

Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.
