PASSIONATE Agriculture enthusiast Ella Kain will receive the prestigious Wattle Range Council Young Citizen of the Year Award this Friday for her community involvement and tireless work at the Penola Show.

After many years showing cattle at the Penola Show, Ms Kain said her devotion to agriculture stemmed from growing up on a farm.

the Penola Pastoral Agriculture and Horticulture Society proudly announced Ella Kain as the 2016 junior rural ambassador, due to her long affiliation with the Penola Show.

For many years, Ms Kain showed cattle for the Galpin family and their Warrawindi limousin stud farm at a number of locations across the country.

Last year Ms Kain was also a finalist for South Australia’s Young Rural Ambassador.

“I decided to enter as it would be another learning curve and a beneficial way to improve my public speaking and leadership skills,” she said

“I am passionate about the south east and this is shown through my ambassador role.”

In addition to her dedication to the ambassador role, Ms Kain held the role of co SRC president at Penola High School alongside fellow Young Citizen of the Year recipient, Aliza Pfitzner.

“I enjoyed the role as I wanted to make leadership and public speaking more approachable for people to participate in as it can be daunting,” Ms Kain said.

She said she loved public speaking and taking on responsibilities which have included coordinating school projects and events.

The Young Citizen of the Year is currently working at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Primary School in administration, with hopes to gain a Certificate 3 in business.

“After my gap year I hope to go on and study Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Adelaide,” Ms Kain said.

When reflecting on receiving the award Ms Kain said she was very honoured and proud.

“I am honoured to be able to accept the award with my friend Aliza – to do this together is amazing,” Ms Kain said.
