THE Adelaide Fringe on Tour Festival will be heading to Kingston this year after Kingston Council secured funding from Wellbeing SA and the Stand Like Stone Foundation.

The Fringe Caravan will travel to the coastal town to provide free pop-up entertainment with a fringe flavour on March 4 to 6.

During the caravan’s visit, Kingston’s Sea and Sand Carnival will be held on Saturday, March 5, adding to the fun of the Fringe Caravan being in the seaside town.

Limestone Coast artist and community worker JoJo Spook will hold a series of workshops during the Sea and Sand Carnival.

Ms Spook will construct miniature replicas of Larry the Lobster from recycled materials, receiving a helping hand from volunteers and patrons throughout the day.

After recently piloting an ocean rubbish program with the Kingston Community School, Ms Spook said she was excited to be part of the event.

“I am passionate about the marine environment, collection of ocean debris and educating others in the process,” Ms Spook said.

“I am looking forward to working with the public on this environmental project and perhaps creating an opportunity for people to be involved in something different, whilst advocating for environmental awareness.”

Kingston Council will also seek further funding through the Country Arts SA Cultural Tourism Accelerator Grant Program to add other arts and cultural events to the occasion.

Council chief executive Nat Traeger confirmed the Adelaide Fringe secured a further $10,000 towards the Kingston event through the Federal Government’s Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund.

Highlights of the event include Kingston Fringe Up Late on Friday, March 4, taking place at the Kingston Town Hall.

The Sea and Sand Carnival kicks off on Saturday March 5 from 4pm at Lions Park in Kingston.

Also, a ‘Sea & Sand’ themed pop-up style exhibition will be held in Kingston Council’s Gallery 29 during March to add to the Kingston Fringe program.

Expressions of interest are currently open for artists to submit works based on the ‘sea & sand’ theme.
