WINNERS of the Adam Lindsay Gordon Award have been announced recently with a meet the artist event scheduled for this weekend.

Community members are welcome to join the South East Art Society (SEAS) at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex Gallery to celebrate the success of artists Jenny Dan and Nita Von Stanke.

The two artists will be presented with their award by Grant District Council Mayor Richard Sage to further celebrate the achievements.

SEAS president Vicky Thorpe said the event followed the exhibition opening which was cancelled at the eleventh hour due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“We wanted to name the award after Adam Lindsay Gordon because he is a significant member of the region’s history and art is so closely linked to mental health which we all know he suffered from,” Ms Thorpe said.

“We had a total of 74 entries for the competition which was more than we expected, however it is not our highest number which was understandable due to Covid.”

Ms Thorpe said the society was happy with the overall number of entries which allowed artists to get excited about entering competitions once again.

“People miss the interaction that competitions provide and we are looking to encourage the youth of the region to begin putting in awards in the future to entice them to be creative.

“By providing a youth competition, it will enable us to further see what talent is available in the youth and what can be achieved in the future.”

The event will be held this Sunday beginning at 12pm with bookings essential.
