COMEDIC LAUGHS: Renowned Australian comedian Peter Helliar was among six performers who graced the stage for the second Grapes of Mirth event.

COMEDY lovers converged at the Penola Racing Club over the weekend to watch some of the country’s hottest talent for an afternoon of laughs, music, food and wine.

More than 800 people were entertained by comedians Peter Helliar, Claire Hooper, Dave Thornton, Danielle Walker and Nazeem Hussain at the second Grapes of Mirth Coonawarra event.

Grapes of Mirth director and master of ceremonies Merrick Watts said the Coonawarra event was a highlight of the tour schedule.

“There is such fantastic community spirit in regional Australia and you can definitively feel it at this event,” he said.

“Coonawarra wine country is full of such great characters.

“The hospitality around the region is wonderful and we always feel so welcome here.”

Alongside the comedians, Adelaide-based DJ Pedro Moshman and 12 wine producers from the Coonawarra region were on hand to make sure the guest were up and dancing.

The event raised around $5000 for the Adelaide Hills wine region which was affected by the Cudlee Creek fire on December 20.
