JUMPING FOR JOY: Adele Potter enjoys the Bungee Trampoline show feature, which was one of many sideshow alley attractions at this year’s Mount Gambier Spring Show.

INCLEMENT weather impacted attendance at this year’s Mount Gambier Spring Show, with crowd numbers slightly down compared to previous years, show president Danielle Tulak says.

Ms Tulak said she thought weather had particularly impacted gate takings on Saturday morning, with “thin” crowds at the showgrounds.

“We had to cancel the wresting on Saturday due to the terrible weather which was disappointing,” Ms Tulak said.

“I think by Saturday afternoon numbers had certainly picked up.

“Everyone was hoping the weather would clear up and crowds were large for Saturday night and through the fireworks.”

However, Ms Tulak said many patrons were undeterred by the wild weather and said the Isuzu D-Max precise driving team was a highlight for those in attendance.

She said the Cowgirls with Wings Trick Riding was also a popular attraction.

“The riding performer Dana is only 17 years old and she basically does gymnastics on the side of a galloping horse,” she said.

“The first time I watched her my heart was in my mouth.

“It was incredible.

“I am sure the crowds thought she was amazing.”

Ms Tulak said the society was driven by a desire to offer a range of new things each year to have people coming back.

“I hope the show is something people look forward to each year,” she said.

“We are trying to provide a family-friendly environment where there is something for everybody to do.

“We try and mix it up each year to try and make it different.”

Ms Tulak said the show society would be looking into more undercover options and features for next year’s event.

“Our food and wine expo we introduced this year was a little bit battered and bruised on Friday, but a few of the traders stuck it out for Saturday,” she said.

“They were saying it was not about the sales and was more about supporting the community and the event.

“Next year we will be looking at getting them under cover and providing some marquees.”

DOWN IN NUMBERS: This year’s Mount Gambier Spring Show saw a slight drop in numbers which was believed to be due to the wet weather conditions on Friday and Saturday.

Ms Tulak while weather could be unpredictable, the society was meeting this week to better prepare for next year’s event.

“It will probably be 30 degrees next year but at least we will be prepared,” she said.

“During this Thursday’s meeting we will be rehashing a few ideas from the public as well as committee members.”
