NEW SOUNDS: Following a near death experience Obsidian’s Curse’s lead singer Kane Stuckey will work alongside the band to experiment with new sounds.

LIFE-CHANGING personal experiences have heavily influenced songwriting behind Mount Gambier metal band Obsidians Curse’s newest single, Dear Death.

In the five-piece band’s first single since its debut album From The Ashes, lead singer Kane Stuckey said the song was born from a near-death experience.

Mr Stuckey was struck down with illness, which resulted in him being admitted to intensive care and hospitalised in Adelaide for a lengthy period, forcing him to quit his job and leaving him unable to work for nine months.

The vocalist has now drawn on that experience to help craft the band’s “most meaningful song” to date.

Mr Stuckey said the song was a reflection on his experience with illness and his plea to continue with his life.

“It is essentially about pleading that it is not my time to go,” he said.

Taking a break from performing, Mr Stuckey said the band continued to enjoy its time together, writing and recording.

“We are enjoying writing new material and enjoying playing around with new sounds,” he said.

“We are looking at doing a follow up tour to our debut album but we are making sure the tour will stay true to us as a band.”

Formed around five years ago, Mr Stuckey said opening for world renowned act Dream On Dreamer was among the band’s highlights.

“That was a fantastic show and it was such an experience,” he said.

“However nothing beats our album launch performed here in Mount Gambier.

“When we did our album launch gig people were singing along and having fun with it which just made the entire event amazing.”

With a strong following within Mount Gambier, Mr Stuckey has high hopes for the band’s future as it continues to explore music.
