A MILLICENT primary school teacher has unbridled his inner John Travolta, swapping places with the students to learn new moves in support of the Stand Like Stone Foundation’s Swinging with the Stars charity event.

St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School educator Rob Francis has learnt a lesson or two under the guidance of dance partner Keana Soper ahead of the annual event.

Mr Francis said while the routines were challenging, he relished the opportunity to fundraise for the community.

He will kick it up a notch when he teams up with talented local music duo JB and Crowie for a unique night of entertainment at the Millicent Civic and Arts Centre this Saturday.

Mr Francis said the idea behind the night is to make it an interactive experience for the audience and has invited the community to join him for a fun night out.

“The songs played by the band will not be determined until the night when people buy a song that is important to them in some way,” he said.

“There may also be the opportunity to fulfil your life dream and step up on stage and perform if that is what you desire.

“We already have two other mystery performers locked in to sing a few songs.

“One is a South African-born singer who will perform in Australia for the first time.”

Mr Francis anticipates the event will follow the success of The Amazing Race fundraiser he organised last month.

“I have found this whole Swinging With the Stars experience to be an incredible ride,” he said.

“I am being challenged by the dancing but I am loving the opportunity of putting together fundraisers like the Dance Day at St Anthony’s, The Amazing Race and this special night of music.

“I received incredible feedback after The Amazing Race but I think with what is planned, this event will top that.

“I am hoping people that attend do so to appreciate the incredibly talented musicians we have in this district.

“This night will also provide the opportunity for people to have a crack at something they have never done before.”

The event starts at 7.30pm with Brad Tilley as emcee and will include a light supper, games, a silent auction and many more activities and challenges.

For catering purposes Mr Francis encourages community members to pre-purchase tickets at Denton’s Sportspower or from him for $15.
