BEST COMPETITOR: Winner of the Stan Elliot award for best competitor Alina Crispino with an image of the award’s namesake.

MORE than 300 entries were received for this year’s entertaining Backstage Incorporated Mount Gambier Speech and Drama Eisteddfod, with the city’s students putting on an array of spirited performances.

Adjudicator Katie McLeish travelled from Melbourne and was impressed with the standard and enjoyment evident in the children’s performances.

An impressive 70 nursery rhymes were presented from children aged between four and six.

The competition saw some spectacular performances in the open section, with impromptu conversations, Shakespeare monologues and sketches.

A highlight of the program was the efforts of Jack Kingston from Melbourne, who entered 16 sections in the under 10 group.

Jack won the under 10 aggregate and impressed the audience with his ability to remember and clearly communicate all his material.

Mount Gambier Eisteddfod coordinator Backstage Incorporated thanked the Lions Club of Mount Gambier and Collins Booksellers Mount Gambier for their generous sponsorship.
