ICONIC Australian television personality Denise Drysdale yesterday had Mount Gambier audiences in stitches as she whipped up the crowd with her trademark humour.

The two-time Gold Logie winner performed to an almost sold out crowd at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre before receiving a rapturous applause from enduring fans at Resthaven Mount Gambier residential aged care facility.

Residents from the aged care home were keen not only to speak with the popular entertainer, but to pose with her in photographs.

Ms Drysdale took time out of her busy “Morning Melodies” schedule to perform a few songs at the aged care facility and mingle with residents.

The effervescent entertainer was also happy to speak with The Border Watch about her visit to the Blue Lake city and the fact she was still able to fill theatres around the country.

“The audiences in Mount Gambier have been lovely – they were gorgeous,” Ms Drysdale said.

“We have 15 shows all together and they have been just great. They (audiences) have all grown up with me – that is probably the best part of my life.

“They see you on the television and you do not have to win them over.”

Ms Drysdale – who is a regular panellist on Studio 10 – described the fact she was still on television as “amazing”.

Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre marketing and community relations officer Caitlin Kennedy said Ms Drysdale was a smash hit with Mount Gambier audiences.

“We loved having Denise perform at the theatre as part of our Country Arts SA’s Morning Melodies program,” Ms Kennedy said.

“She performed to an almost sold-out crowd and we had rave reviews from the audience who want her to come back again.”

Denise will also perform at the Hopgood Theatre, Chaffey Theatre, Northern Festival Centre and the Middleback Arts Centre as part of her regional tour.
