MELBOURNE’S premier jazz band Shirazz is returning for the third consecutive year to Penola on July 7 as part of Coonawarra Cellar Dwellers celebrations.

This vibrant band of talented musicians plays some of the hottest traditional jazz around and they are excited to return to the Rymill Hall stage.

Shirazz has plenty of touring experience, having performed all over the eastern states, as well as throughout Victoria.

“We love being on the road, it’s great to go to new places and meet new people and we have had some really great tour experiences,” leader and trombonist/vocalist Matt Dixon said
Since 2010, Shirazz has been wowing audiences with an exciting and approachable take on traditional jazz music.

“Jazz fans love that we’re keeping the style alive as many traditional musicians are nearing retirement,” Mr Dixon said.

“But even non-jazz fans find the music accessible and fun and I cannot tell you how many times we have had people tell us they did not think they liked jazz, but they loved whatever it is that we do.”

Shirazz’s lively and rambunctious show will take in traditional New Orleans material, mixing in reimagined pop hits and their own cheeky originals to deliver their famous infectious live sound.

This year’s event will start at 8pm.

“We recognise that many people in the Limestone Coast are busy with sports on Saturdays, so given the extra time to get ready and have a bite to eat, we really hope we can attract a greater audience,” Coonawarra Vignerons marketing and events officer Heidi Eldridge said.

Subject to demand, Coonawarra Vignerons will coordinate bus transfers from Mount Gambier and Naracoorte.

Contact the Coonawarra Vignerons office to book a seat.

Coonawarra wines, cheese and dessert will be available on the night, but cheese platters should be ordered when booking tickets.
