WORLD PREMIERE: The Spinners, a dance performance tearing apart the story of the fates of Greek mythology, will premiere at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on July 7.

IN AN exhilarating ride into myth and imagination, renowned choreographer and dancer Lina Limosani and Scottish director Al Seed will tear apart the story of the fates of Greek mythology in The Spinners – a new work that will have its world premiere in Mount Gambier.

Dancers Tara Jade Samaya and Kialea-Nadine Williams will join Limosani on stage as the fates who spin, measure and cut the thread of life, creating an emotionally charged dance performance which weaves together conflict, destiny and our perceptions of choice.

“When award-winning director and long-time friend Al Seed suggested to me the Moirai – the Greek goddesses of fate and destiny – as the theme, I did some research and could see the theme was saturated with magical images, all of which could be explored through dance physicality and expression,” Ms Limosani said.

She added it was a privilege to showcase the new work at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre for the first time.

“It is not every day we get to run away from the chaos of the city and present work in a place like Mount Gambier that has such a wonderful appreciation for the arts,” she said.

Mr Seed said he was thrilled to debut The Spinners with Lina in Australia.

“I am delighted because this will be the first time my work has been seen by Australian audiences and the first time a work co-created with my long-term collaborator will be seen on her home turf,” he said.

“The work itself is certainly one of – if not the most – ambitious shows I have ever been involved in creating.

“It comprises a genuinely deep and integrated collaborative process not just involving myself and Lina, but the team’s extraordinary dancers and designers also.”

Ms Limosani has won a number of awards for her latest work Not Today’s Yesterdays – in particular the 2018 Adelaide Fringe Award for Best Dance.

Mr Seed has received Total Theatre, Fringe First and Herald Angel awards for work presented at Edinburgh Fringe and a Jerwood Foundation Award.

The Spinners will premiere at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on July 7 at 7pm.
